Week 1
3 Favourite Stop Motion Videos
In week1, we are to watch stop motion short and share 3 of our favourites.

1.  Bench
Figure 1.1 Bench
When I was watching my favorite stop motion on YouTube, I was drawn in by the cover. It was really ugly-cute, and I absolutely love adorably ugly things. The overall art style is quite funny as well. The background music of this one is the sound of birds chirping, which also fits the scene of the story, which is on a park bench. The twist at the end was unexpected. The character designs are also one big and one small. It’s amusing how the big character puts the small one in the bread and eats it at the end—haha!

2. Archie
Figure 1.2 Archie
The story was both lovely and sad. The images and light and shadow of the story are relatively warm and soft. The protagonist is a dog, and interestingly, he has a dog of his own, which is a unique setting. Dogs symbolize loyalty, and this story emphasizes the importance of cherishing our family while they are still with us. At the end of the story, It was truly amazing to see the photo of the mother and son that had been swept away by the heavy rain reappear in front of the house. I really like the content of the story.

3. The Man Who Was Afraid Of Falling

Figure 1.3 The Man Who Was Afraid Of Falling
The whole story, including the music, has a gentle quality, creating a warm yet slightly sad atmosphere. It revolves around an old man who moves from a very high floor to a single-story house because he is afraid of falling. The fallen objects throughout the story serve as hints of the old man's mental state and reinforce the theme. By making the old man the protagonist, the story effectively highlights the universal fear of death.

Week 7
In week7, we had a stop motion shooting practice. Below is our group member. Our group was divided into two teams: the Cutout Team and the Claymation Team.

After completing the shooting, we shared our final shots in the group. These shots will be used for stop motion editing in Week 9.

In Week 13, Mr Martin reviewed my first cut of the stop motion video and gave me feedback. He suggested adding more sound effects, such as walking sounds, stone scraping when the character is eating, and a falling down sound.

After that, I completed the final edits of the stop-motion video.

Reflection

Through this project, I learned how stop motion works and how to create it effectively. When I was shooting the stop motion, I felt that it was difficult to keep everything in the same place. If something suddenly move even a little, the animation would look weird, and I have to reshoot the scene. When shaping the character's body, I also have to do it in the same place because a little move I have to reshoot. Working with the small clay pieces was challenging as they were difficult to shape.

By the way, I had a lot of fun with this project because it was my first time shooting and editing stop motion. Although the process was hard, when I saw the final result, I felt quite satisfied with what I had achieved.

I really enjoy playing the clay. It was fun to create and shape the characters, even though it took patience and effort.
